FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 20, 2018
KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – The State Board of Community Colleges has approved the appointment of Dr. Kenneth Boham as Interim President at James Sprunt Community College, replacing Dr. Lawrence Rouse who will begin his presidency at Pitt Community College effective August 1.
Dr. Boham is no stranger to the North Carolina Community College System. He comes to James Sprunt with over 40 years of experience, having previously served as President of Caldwell Community College, Vice President of Continuing Education for Wake Technical Community College, and as an Interim President at both Mayland Community College and most recently, Martin Community College.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to come to James Sprunt Community College and serve as the Interim President,” said Dr. Boham. “I look forward to working with the faculty and staff at James Sprunt, as well as the Board of Trustees and the community to ensure things continue to run smoothly at the college.”
Dr. Boham retired from the North Carolina Community College System in 2016 from his presidency at Caldwell Community College. “I have a love for the system,” said Dr. Boham, “so when there is an opportunity to be of service, I am more than happy to help.”
Throughout the years, Dr. Boham has developed many strong relationships to Duplin County through trustee meetings, and is looking forward to working at James Sprunt Community College. “James Sprunt has never had any issues. It is a great college…The perception of James Sprunt is very good throughout the system.”
“I want to continue the good things that Dr. Rouse and the Board of Trustees have started,” said Dr. Boham. “I am going to be here to ensure that when a new President is appointed, there is a very smooth transition so that he or she can take the college and move it forward.”
Dr. Rouse, the outgoing President of James Sprunt, says on Dr. Boham’s arrival, “James Sprunt welcomes him and we look forward to him continuing to take the college into the future. He is an experienced professional with several years of experience as a community college president.”
Dr. Boham, a resident of Holly Springs, NC, holds a doctorate degree in education from North Carolina State University, as well as a master of education, and received his bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University.
