FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 24, 2019
KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – James Sprunt Community College is pleased to announce that its new Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) / Truck Driving program will begin in May. With Agribusinesses being dominate in Duplin County, the need for trained truck drivers with CDL’s will continue to grow. This new program will also be paired with our Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology program, allowing students to earn an additional credential that will make them more employable for the workforce.
The program will begin operating with the help of one of our sister colleges, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute located in Hudson, North Carolina.
James Sprunt started efforts for the new CDL program in June of 2017. Funding and equipment had to be secured before the program could start. With the generous donations from companies such as Smithfield and Valley Proteins, and the assistance of CCCTI, the program will begin on May 20, 2019.
Two CDL training sessions will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. The morning session will begin at 11:00 a.m., and the evening session will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the McGowan Building, Room 146 on the main campus.
Registration for the CDL / Truck Driving Program will be held May 7, 2019.
